Why Kith and Kin?

Kith: Friends or acquaintances, people with whom you have a close or familiar relationship.

Kin: Family members, especially those who are related by blood.

Together, "kith and kin" means all of one's close social connections, both familial and friendly. It's a way of referring to the people who are most important in someone's life, often in a context of loyalty or belonging. Here at our salon, this is the culture we have successfully created. Let us explain how!

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, our salon owner Dawn Jones, with the help of friends and family, was able to open up the hair salon of her dreams. Since 2020, Dawn has cultivated a team of stylists and service experts who fulfill the term “kith and kin” with ease.

Celebration, Acceptance, Excellence, Compassion, Community

Recently, our group attended a class hosted by Summit business coach, Tim Fisk, who navigated us all through an afternoon of practicing gratitude, self-confidence, and team appreciation. In this class, we were able to collaborate on developing a set of words that we felt authentically described who we are as a company. Typically, when starting as a new employee, you are given a set of words that you are expected to embody, but not here. Each and every one of our employees had a say in which words we felt made sense for us, and that is a display of our love for one another as well as our guests. These five words now serve as our mission and commitment to you, ourselves, and one another.

Celebration

We recognize that existing is cause for celebration. We celebrate the wins of our team and guests both inside the salon and out. We believe that intentional positivity is vital for thriving relationships with one another. Oftentimes life’s milestones are shared within our space, and that is something we hold highly. No celebration is too small and all your wins are ours.

Acceptance

There is no acceptance unless it includes everyone, in every way. We will not compromise on treating others with respect, kindness, and empathy. We know that everyone strives for a place where they feel accepted, and we want to be that place. We will always remind you that you are worthy. The good, the bad, the ugly, we stand before you with open arms.

Excellence

Excellence to us is not just how we are perceived, but something that we want to be seen showing in our day-to-day lives. Our priority is providing excellence, and this is what guides and inspires us. We embrace the mandate to provide an exceptional experience for every guest who visits us. We learn from our mistakes and welcome feedback, using that as motivation to succeed.

Compassion

Compassion is the active endeavor of seeking to understand each individual’s experience with the intention of empathy and care. We want you to come as you are, and you can expect an open embrace when entering our doors. We hold that everyone deserves to be understood individually, and we are eager to show you that.

Community

Kith + Kin is a welcoming space that fosters friendship and family. A key component of our community is the support and understanding that we provide one another. As for our guests, our relationships with you reach beyond the four walls of our salon. We will be there to laugh, cry, and celebrate when it is called upon us. We value what each individual brings into our space, and we stand stronger together, period.

Implicitly these words have held meaning for our team for quite some time, but we have decided now that this is something that is meant to be shared with everyone. “Kith and kin” is the baseline of who we are and we hope to show the world that.
